چکیده

Species distribution prediction modeling plays a key role in biodiversity research. We propose to publish both species distribution data and modeling components as Web services and composite them into modeling systems using the scientific workflow approach. We build a prototype system using Kepler scientific workflow system and demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approach. This study is the first step towards building a virtual escience laboratory for ecologists to perform distributed and cooperative research on species distribution predictions.

Architectural Plan for Constructing Fault Tolerable Workflow Engines Based on Grid Service

In this paper the design and implementation of fault tolerable architecture for scientific workflow engines is presented. The engines are assumed to be implemented as composite web services. Current architectures for workflow engines do not make any considerations for substituting faulty web services with correct ones at run time. The difficulty is to rollback the execution state of the workflo...

Geospatial web services within a scientific workflow: Predicting marine mammal habitats in a dynamic environment

Article history: Received 29 December 2006 Received in revised form 20 June 2007 Accepted 30 July 2007 Our ability to informconservation andmanagement of species is fundamentally limited by the availability of relevant biogeographic data, use of statistically robust predictive models, and presentation of results to decision makers. Despite the ubiquity of presence-only models, where available, ...

Data Management Challenges in Species Distribution Modeling

An important component in the fields of ecology and conservation biology is understanding the environmental conditions and geographic areas that are suitable for a given species to inhabit. A common tool in determining such areas is species distribution modeling which uses computer algorithms to determine the spatial distribution of organisms. Most commonly the correlative relationships between...

Prediction of potential habitat distribution of Artemisia sieberi Besser using data-driven methods in Poshtkouh rangelands of Yazd province

The present study aimed to model potential habitat distribution of A. sieberi, and its ecological requirements using generalized additive model (GAM) and classification and regression tree (CART) in in the Poshtkouh rangelands of Yazd province. For this purpose, pure habitats of the species was delineated and the species presence data was recorded by the systematic-randomize sampling method. Us...
